There will be a special convention for the Libertarian Party of Michigan some time in January 2026.
Volunteers are needed as soon as possible to serve on both a Convention Planning Committee and a Credentials Committee for this special convention. Please email leadership@michiganlp.org if you are interested in either committee.
This special January convention will have a dual purpose, as the Executive Committee (LEC) recently voted to combine the selection of national delegates with the candidate nominating convention for the special Senate election in the 35th District.
The nominating convention must legally be held in the 35th District, as delegates from that area will vote for their preferred candidate for Senate. The 35th district includes Midland, Saginaw and Bay City.
The LEC recently interviewed Ali Sledz as a potential candidate. Click here to see a recording of this interview. Any other residents of the 35th district who are interested in being considered as a candidate for Senate can email leadership@michiganlp.org to explain why they are interested, and how they are qualified.
The party has also received publicity for this special election, as NPR recently interviewed our chair. Click here to read about this interview.
The second part of the convention is the national delegate selection process. In 2026, the Libertarian National Convention will be held In Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 21st-25th. At the January convention, Michigan state delegates will vote on members for represent them at the 2026 National Convention.
There will soon be an official call to convention to announce the specific dates and location. Local groups will select delegates to vote at the state convention on their behalf.
In order to become a voting delegate at a state convention, a person who has never been a member of the Libertarian Party of Michigan must become a member at least 30 days prior to a state convention. Click here to join the Libertarian Party of Michigan.
