Election Day is coming up soon for Libertarian Senate candidate Ali Sledz, who is running in a special May 5th election for Michigan’s 35th district.
Ali has been running an active and energetic campaign, highlighted by her battle to have her voice heard at a March 24th candidate forum at Saginaw Valley State University. 
After the university and NPR continued to give varying excuses for excluding Ali Sledz from the forum, Michigan Libertarian Paul Foust filed a complaint with the Bureau of Elections on Ali Sledz’s behalf, accusing SVSU and NPR of violating Section 57 of the Michigan Campaign Finance Act, 1976 P.A. 388, MCL 169.201.
“The Forum, although informational and educational, did advocate a certain political viewpoint, making it a clear violation of Section 57,” said Foust.
“By establishing rules that only Major Party candidates could achieve qualification for, SVSU has endorsed a narrow-minded, political, normative worldview. One of the key purposes of Higher Education is to diversify sources and inputs, not to slam the door shut on them.”
Ali Sledz made the most out of this battle, and showed up to the forum anyway!! She set up a booth outside of the forum, made comments and statements from the forum, and met voters at a nearby bar after the forum.
As a result, she has received coverage from media outlets including ABC, MSN, M-Live, and WCMU radio.
Ali will be one of three candidates on the ballot for the May 5th special election for Senate in Michigan’s 35th District, which includes part of Saginaw, Bay, and Midland Counties.
