Libertarian Party of Michigan Disavows Anthony Hudson Campaign

The Executive Committee of the Libertarian Party of Michigan, during an emergency meeting held online on September 27, 2026, adopted a resolution formally disavowing the campaign of Anthony Hudson, who received the Party’s nomination for Governor at its June 2026 convention.

The action follows the Party’s previous formal censure of Hudson over public statements that the Party determined ran counter to Libertarian principles, including statements opposing the freedoms of speech and religion protected by the First Amendment.

The Libertarian Party is founded on individual liberty, self-determination, non-aggression, and the protection of constitutional rights for all people. Following his formal censure, Hudson continued to publicly disparage the Libertarian Party of Michigan and its platform. In response, the Executive Committee adopted the following resolution:

WHEREAS, The Libertarian Party is founded upon the fundamental principles of individual liberty, self-determination, and the protection of constitutional rights for all individuals, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or identity;

WHEREAS, Public statements and platform positions of Anthony Hudson actively oppose foundational constitutional liberties, including freedom of speech and freedom of religion; and

WHEREAS, The ideology promoted by the Hudson campaign fundamentally contradicts the core values, platform, and purpose of the Libertarian Party; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hudson, despite a formal censure, has continued to use his campaign to disparage the Libertarian Party of Michigan and its platform; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Libertarian Party of Michigan disavows the Anthony Hudson campaign and publicly disassociates from any affiliation, support, or political connection with his candidacy.

 

The action does not alter the fact that Hudson received the Party’s gubernatorial nomination at its June convention. Rather, the resolution communicates the Executive Committee’s position that the statements and ideology promoted by the Hudson campaign do not represent the Libertarian Party of Michigan, its platform, or its principles.

The Libertarian Party of Michigan remains committed to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, equal individual rights, and the principle that government should neither infringe upon those liberties nor discriminate among individuals.
