For Immediate Release – October 31, 2016
The Libertarian Party of Michigan is running 13 congressional candidates this year. Diane Bostow lives in Gwinn, Michigan, is the candidate in District 1, which encompasses most of northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. She has put 30,000 miles on her car since May campaigning all around the district spreading her message and that of the Libertarian presidential ticket of governors Gary Johnson and William Weld.
Like other Libertarian candidates, Diane is finding creative ways to help people learn about the party’s message of fiscal responsibility and social tolerance.
For example, Bostow has placed her campaign yard signs all over the District. For each sign she plants, she puts another right next to it for Gary Johnson. “I think our signs shoulder-to-shoulder are why we’re both doing well in my district,” says Bostow. “Some people know Gary, but not me and vice versa; it really seems that working together we are greater than the sum of our parts.”
Congressional candidate Lisa Gioia, who is running in the 10th District in the Thumb region, is going door-to-door handing out Gary Johnson door hangers along with her own material. When she talks to people about her campaign and Gary Johnson’s presidential run, she says, “You see the light in people’s eyes when you tell them that there is another choice, that there is an alternative to the Republicans and Democrats ruling over us so wastefully in Washington.”
Gregory Creswell of Detroit, running in District 14, is spending each weekend passing out Gary Johnson literature and signs in neighborhoods. He believes his efforts for Johnson/Weld ticket will help him in his race. “We’re reaching many folks that don’t like the status quo”, said Creswell.
Other Libertarian Party candidates for Congress are: Erwin Haas, District 2; Leonard Schwartz, District 4; Steve Sluka, District 5; Lorence Wenke, District 6; Ken Proctor, District 7; Jeff Wood, District 8; Matt Orlando, District 9; Jonathan Osment, district 11; Tom Bagwell, District 12; Tiffany Hayden, District 13.
Appearing at a Detroit rally in Cobo Hall on Friday, October 28, Gary Johnson acknowledged his Michigan co-campaigners. “Thanks to all the candidates in Michigan who are getting our message out along with theirs. We’re doing well in Michigan and you’re making that possible. I look forward to working with you in Washington when we’re elected!”
