CONVENTION RULES
Below are the proposed convention rules for the Libertarian Party of Michigan Candidate Nominating Convention to be held on June 28, 2026:
Rule 1. The Credentials Committee, directly after the opening of the first business meeting, shall report the number of delegates registered and present with proper credentials, and will make a supplementary report at regular intervals.
Rule 2: The success or failure of any motion will be based on the number of delegates present and voting on that question.
Rule 3: To facilitate identification in the assembly hall, delegates are required to wear the badge issued by the Credentials Committee upon registration.
Rule 4. All motions, resolutions, reports and other material for the permanent record or printed proceedings must be electronically submitted, printed or handwritten, and immediately on presentation, be given to the recording Secretary.
Rule 5. No member may speak in debate more than once on the same question on the same day, or longer than two minutes.
Rule 6. Motions to suspend the rules or end debate require a 2/3 vote.
Rule 7. Division of the house in exception to the decision of the Chair on any voice vote shall require 10 members to stand for such count to occur.
Rule 8: The Convention will adjourn at 5:30 pm Sunday unless 2/3 of the delegates vote to extend business.
Rule 9: The rules contained in the current edition of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revisited will govern the convention in all cases to which they are applicable unless such rule conflicts with the bylaws of the Libertarian Party of Michigan.
Rule 10: Delegates from the floor can nominate and vote for candidates in their district, and any delegate can nominate a statewide candidate. Each candidate nominated will have the chance to speak for up to five minutes. Members may also speak on behalf of candidates, and a speech may also be given on behalf of “None of the Above.”
Rule 11 Votes for Lieutenant Governor and Governor nominee shall be made by secret ballot. Delegates may also choose to conduct other nominations by secret ballot.
