Convention January 17th to Select National Delegates, 35th District Senate Candidate

There will be a convention for the Libertarian Party of Michigan to be held on January 17, 2026 at the H Hotel at 111 W Main Street in Midland.  Registration information will be coming soon.

This special January convention will have a dual purpose, as the Executive Committee (LEC) voted to combine the selection of delegates to the national convention with a candidate nominating convention for the special Senate election in the 35th District.

The nominating convention must legally be held in the 35th District, as delegates from that area will vote for their preferred candidate for Senate. The 35th district includes Midland, Saginaw and Bay City.

The LEC recently interviewed Ali Sledz as a potential candidate. Click here to see a recording of this interview. Any other residents of the 35th district who are interested in being considered as a candidate for Senate can email leadership@michiganlp.org to explain why they are interested, and how they are qualified.

The convention also has the purpose of members selecting national delegates for the 2026 Libertarian National Convention, which will be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 21st-25th. At the January convention, Michigan state delegates will vote for members to represent them at the 2026 national convention.

There will soon be an official call to convention to announce the specific dates and location of the January state convention. Local groups select delegates to vote at the state convention on their behalf. If you do not have a local group, you can join the  unaffiliated delegate selection caucus. It will be held Sunday December 7 that 7pm. Click here for the zoom meeting.

In order to become a voting delegate at a state convention, a person who has never been a member of the Libertarian Party of Michigan must become a member at least 30 days prior to a state convention. Click here to join the Libertarian Party of Michigan.
