The Libertarian Party of Michigan State Convention will be held on Saturday, March 10, near East Lansing. This convention will select our state’s delegates to the Libertarian Party National Convention in New Orleans on July 1-3, 2018. We may possibly pre-endorse the LPM’s 2018 candidates for Secretary of State, Attorney General and/or Supreme Court.
Want to Become a Libertarian Delegate?
To vote at the March 10 convention, you must be selected as a delegate or alternate by a local group. Per the LPM Bylaws adopted last year, delegates to state conventions are now selected by local affiliates or, where no affiliate exists, area caucuses set up by the state Libertarian Executive Committee.
The LEC has asked the state credentials committee to organize these caucuses in unaffiliated areas. The schedule of caucuses including the delegate allocation per affiliate or area is set forth below. Caucuses may vote to send up to that number of delegates to the convention and may choose an equal number of alternates.
To vote in the caucus for an unaffiliated area, you will need to be a current dues-paying member of the Libertarian Party of Michigan, and reside in one of the counties in that area. Recognized affiliates set their own rules, and may require membership in the affiliate and/or the LPM in order to vote at a caucus.
You may join or renew your membership in the LPM here
You need not participate in the caucus to become a Libertarian delegate or alternate, but to serve as a convention delegate or alternate you must be a member of the Libertarian Party of Michigan as of March 10.
Please note:
- Per the amended LPM Bylaws, national LP membership is no longer enough to qualify as an LPM member;
- Someone who has a lapsed LPM membership can be selected as a delegate at caucus, renew his/her membership at the convention, and still vote;
- Per the “30-day rule” in our bylaws, new LPM members and national-only LP members who first joined the LP after July 29, 2017 must join the Libertarian Party of Michigan by February 8, 2018 to be eligible to vote at the March 10 convention.
Please help us spread the word about these caucuses and take part in your local caucus! Please feel free to contact me with questions: esalvette@gmail.com We look forward to seeing you at the March 10 convention.
