Liberty-Fest

We hope you might consider staying for the 2017 LibertyFest, which will follow starting at 5:30 pm.    The Liberty Banquet is an annual celebration and awards ceremony for members and others who have exhibited extraordinary efforts for liberty in Michigan – see descriptions for each toward the end of the page.    The deadline for nominations is December 31, 2016 and should be sent to jeffwood531@gmail.com.

As a special treat – the guest speaker for this year is Nicholas Sarwark, the National Chairman of the Libertarian Party USA.   Nick is a tremendous speaker who has helped state affiliates throughout the country achieve record success.    His insights and passion for liberty will no doubt fire you up to be part of our future.

If you should choose to stay overnight, we’ve negotiated a special room rate of $79, up to four occupancy and breakfast is included.    There are many amenities at the Ramada – but, the special room rate is only available until the end of the day on January 15th.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Nicholas Sarwark is an unabashed, second generation Libertarian with a strong commitment to fighting on the party’s behalf against unfair ballot access obstacles and exclusion of qualified candidates from public debates.

Sarwark has been an active member of the Libertarian Party since 1999 and has served on the Judicial and Bylaws committees of the national party. He also served as chair of the Libertarian Party of Maryland and as vice chair of the Libertarian Party of Colorado where he played a key role in recruiting the state’s 42 Libertarian candidates in 2014 and supported the passage of Colorado’s historic marijuana legalization initiative in 2012.

Professionally, Nicholas Sarwark has been a criminal defense attorney and has worked over ten years in the private sector. He served as a deputy public defender in Colorado, trying more than 30 cases before a jury and arguing in front of the Colorado Supreme Court. He also has more than a decade of experience in computer consulting and sales. In 2014 he moved to Arizona with his wife and two children to join in the operations of a family business, the oldest independent auto dealership in Phoenix, founded in 1942.

Throughout his career, he developed a commitment to high-quality service which he now applies to raising the national Libertarian Party’s standards for support of state affiliates, members and candidates.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Defender of Liberty Awards

Defender of Liberty Awards (“Libbies”) have been presented at our annual LibertyFest Banquet to a maximum of six select individuals, Libertarian or otherwise, who have made notable personal efforts in the defense of liberty. Awards are normally presented to Michigan residents. For a directory of past Liberty Festival Banquets and Defender of Liberty Award recipients, visit our Historical Archives.

We granted three Libby Awards at the event to three very deserving Libertarians.

  • Spokesperson for Liberty Award: To a member of the community whose patriotism and conviction have inspired contributions to the cause of liberty.
  • Promoter of Liberty Award: To a libertarian whose efforts have done the most to promote the LP and Libertarian principles.
  • Producer of Liberty Award: To a dedicated, behind-the-scenes Libertarian whose quiet labors over the years exemplifies the backbone of the LP.
